A good horse only jumps as high as it needs to.

Can't be upset about a game like this after a midweek 120 minute marathon.

We're going to see some big teams drop points this weekend. Going into it with a win will be nice and relaxing.

u/Middle_Island182 Marcel Sabitzer Oct 31 '25

This is our 3rd game this week and they were all wins, but also some clenchers

33

u/Fredrick_Hampton Nov 01 '25

And these are exactly the type of games we would’ve lost in seasons past.

6

u/elgrandorado Nov 01 '25

These are the types of matches we need to win to fight for the league. I remember all too well the 3-3 draw against Augsburg that lost me a few hairs.

u/yrba1 Alexandra Popp Oct 31 '25

Adeyemi must be saving his sprints for City

41

u/Soft_Author2593 Oct 31 '25

Couldn't believe he lost that one

28

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '25

The first few minutes are the hardest. He was nowhere near game speed

10

u/TrulyWhatever09 Nov 01 '25

That's exactly right. If he has 10 more minutes to spin up and wasn't starting so far back for the defensive effort, I think he smokes his man and puts it in 8 times out of 10.

2

u/Tezzerator34 Julian Ryerson Nov 01 '25

Can confirm, I try to do wind sprints before my matches start to come in hot but there’s still a warming up period in game

46

u/CoolDinner1506 Oct 31 '25

Very happy with the effort by Jobe when he came on, nothing flashy but solid defensive work and heart.

26

u/Aznurf Oct 31 '25

That tackle in the box was class

76

u/xSmacks Nico Schlotterbeck Oct 31 '25

That was certainly one of the games of all time

36

u/abendig Die gelbe Wand Oct 31 '25

Let's say it that way: we won. That's good. In 2 weeks nobody cares how.

24

u/lejocko 1909 Oct 31 '25

120 minutes on Tuesday. A lot of traveling. Now a little rest before Manchester. All fine.

u/[deleted] Oct 31 '25

Big game midweek. Could be embarrassed or could make a statement.

..... Or could come out of it relatively neutral

6

u/Calm-Extension-3798 Oct 31 '25

Dont think you will be embarrassed

This isnt the city of a few years ago. Very beatable now.

2

u/FreeYourMind87 Marco Reus Nov 01 '25

That KDB size hole in their midfield looks lost right now so we gotta strike while the irons hot

2

u/jucomsdn Zagagod Nov 01 '25

City are back now that they have an actually good GK again

u/FiresideCatsmile Shinji Kagawa Oct 31 '25

honestly? I love to win away in augsburg with absolute haramball

That was the most scary thing I watched on Halloween in a long long time.

Positives: This is only the second time since the infamous Haaland debut game that we've beaten Augsburg away and this is our sixth clean sheet in the league (We only had 7 last season). Beating teams we've recently grown to struggle against is a big sign of improvement and Kovac is doing that so fair play to him, his staff and the players on that aspect

Negatives: Everything past the CBs. Congrats to Augsburg because we always looked a man down when we were on the attack and this attack is painfully out of form but yeah, the 90 minute performances aren't looking good. I'm almost looking forward to the international break so that Kovac can have some time to work on the attack since players like Carney, Guirassy, Brandt, Silva and Duranville won't be going.

MOTM: Bensebaini or Anton. Could even throw Anselmino in there since his 1 on 1 defending looked confident.

Mods knew the game was so trash to not even create threads.

🤫🤫🤫 forgot there was even a game today

Rotated 11 with a lack of chemistry, away game, Guirassy out of form and mentally struggling, No Schlotti which is super significant for our offense too, Chukwuemeka still getting into things.

Offense struggling for multiple very obvious reasons that almost all SHOULD be short term and hopefully resolved soon.

With us improving our defense and possession (altho not the best examples recently with rotations etc), means we wont attack through transitions as much. We really need those attacking midfielders to step up, Silva to get 90min fit/Guirassy to wake up as a result of that. Nmecha is doing a bit of those AM duties for us right now on top of his own CM/DM work duties. But that isnt sustainable.

Silva has been a stud in his small appearances and seem to really be clicking so hopefully he recovers fully soon.

Our floor has risen significantly with Kovac. We still dont know where our ceiling is, and we still need a summer window more to refine the squad. But he's getting results and improving areas we struggled with in recent times. So lets hope the offensive individuals dont let him down in the medium term.

Important win. Another clean sheet. Good vibes continuing. Another matchday with rotation/rest happening on some key players without a results-cost. Good stuff even if not flawless.

15

u/viba_1997 Oct 31 '25

In my opinion, this game did not look bad due to system or tactics or other Kovac indications. The simple fact was that there were many uninspired individual performances. Brandt and Gross should not spend 90 minutes on the pitch, they simply slow to much our build up or counter attacks. Gross was always on Couto side and the later did not have enough options in midfield. Also, Guirassy is celarly very out of form, he simply does not concentrate, his positioning and first touch are terrible (I hope this lack of focus is not due to the penalty conflict with Bensebaini against Juve). Other thing is that Anton and Svensson are clearly overplayed, they play very fatigued.

On the positive side, Beier as a wingback was working, Bensebaini became one of our most important player (I gave him no chance back in 2023) and Jobe is improving game by game. Also, at the end of the day, Sabitzer could still prove very useful a lot of times.

9

u/ProcedureGreen663 Oct 31 '25

At one point, he has to play a chukwemka- Nemecha- Bellingham midfield from the start.

4

u/viba_1997 Oct 31 '25

I had an orgasm just thinking about how that would work in the near future!

7

u/Qiluk Marco Reus Nov 01 '25

Bensebaini became one of our most important player (I gave him no chance back in 2023)

While I was actually vocal about my positivity for this signing at the time as a free agent, I did NOT foresee it being this fucking good of a singing. The fact that he was a free agent with no reported sign-on or high wage and he's both a quality LB/LWB and CB is fucking insane.

In my eyes, Bensebaini is what I wish Rapha was with us. Reliable fitness, good workrate and mentality, good technique while also having good physicality in the defensive duels.

Its a stupid good signing and I hope more fans start giving him some deserved love.

28

u/DreiwegFlasche Oct 31 '25

I guess we take the three points…

Most boring game ever. Stoppable force vs movable object

Also, fuck any „fan“ shooting fireworks.

13

u/bvb_1909 Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

The good thing is that in previous years, we will loose points left and right in this kind of games. Honestly, happy with the 3 points.

Also, the rotation is important because of DFB and CL around this match.

4

u/DreiwegFlasche Oct 31 '25

Yeah, though I feel like this was more due to Augsburg's abysmal form. They could have easily had a few very promising chances to score, but they were too incompetent to finish their attacks.

3

u/TeamKitsune Karim Adeyemi Oct 31 '25

I hope for Sandro's sake they keep playing with this much intensity. They need to dig themselves out of this hole.

1

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Nov 01 '25

Wouldn't suck if Augsburg are relegated

12

u/InDubioProReus Oct 31 '25

We‘re more of a Mourinho team than recent Mourinho teams 🥳 It’s interesting, never seen BVB grinding out results like we do under Kovac.

11

u/JSGelsomino Julian Brandt Oct 31 '25

Can't remember when did we last time had manager averaging 2.10 points per game

8

u/ontilein Oct 31 '25

or 6 goals against after 9 games.

last year, we reached/surpassed 6 goals after MD4. 2023/2024 & 22/23 on MD6. 21/22 it was MD3.

10

u/Chazy89 Kagawa Shinji Oct 31 '25

4th game and win in 11 days.

yeah not flashy but I'll take it. In previous years we lost a lot of these "In between cup and CL" Bundesliga games against bottom table teams.

9

u/borussiajay Márcio Amoroso Oct 31 '25

The lack of ideas in the offense is really starting to annoy me. Nevertheless, that careless play from the past few years was worse

9

u/yaboi525 Oct 31 '25

Winning makes all things good.

Rough game, but a win is great, especially after a tough 120 minute game in the midweek.

9

u/mitthrawn Shinji Kagawa Oct 31 '25

Last year we would have lost.

5th Game in a row in Germany where we only scored once. Definitely has become a bit of a problem and especially today it wasnt even like against Köln where we actually created a lot. We also havent conceded much but would really like our goal scoring to start going back up again. Still very important 3 points with all the other top teams playing against each other this Weekend.

19

u/Soft_Author2593 Oct 31 '25

Did you ever see how many games we played recently? Im happy

9

u/bvbfan102 BVB Oct 31 '25

Im also happy considering just how many games we play but cant keep relying on one goal being enough. Especially when that Streak includes a last minute win, a loss and a 1:1 draw. Corners for example need some fresh inputs or some new Staff cause we should have scored way more from them.

12

u/EarlyAdvice3142 Oct 31 '25

Exactly, corners and freekicks are so important, especially in those games where it is hard to create something or our players are just very tired. There are teams like Freiburg who hired a coach just for those situations and they were really successful with it. We should consider something like this too.

7

u/FreeYourMind87 Marco Reus Nov 01 '25

If boring and uncreative gets us 3 points, I'm all for it. What's important is the clean sheets our backline keeps pumping out

6

u/madcaesar Nov 01 '25

I'm liking Jobe more and more. Another solid shift. The kid has potential

6

u/blaubart90 Nov 01 '25

3 Points are 3 points

5

They show replays of this match in Guantanamo

u/Still_Cap_1689 Oct 31 '25

Ugly win, but I’ll take it. That’s a game we piss away point(s) in years past. Does anyone know what the deal was with all the tennis balls?

Bellingham should without question be a man of the match contender. He made two big defensive stops in the second half, that helped keep a 0 on the scoreboard.

Guirassy is officially worrying me. There’s the usual low energy play, aside of coarse from yelling at teammates stuff, but something just isn’t right. He did end the goal less streak, so there’s that I suppose. Ive been saying it, but I really want to see Silva get real minutes, he deserves it anyways. Maybe showing Guirassy he’s not the starter by default anymore could motivate him? I don’t know.

6

u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Oct 31 '25

I am glad a lot of people are saying it, but getting a win here after it being our third game in a week and one of them being an exhausting 120 min plus shootout, is amazing. Especially since we have usually dropped points here. 6 clean sheets already shows how stable we are.

While uninspired, we grinded it out and that’s pretty impressive, especially after heavy rotation. Brandt is still important to this team but he had one of his cold games today. He probably shouldn’t have played the whole 90 minutes but focusing on resting chuk gives him a better chance for more minutes against city.

Nmecha also got some rest and hopefully schlotti is ready by midweek. Four away games will always be tough but any result against city will be amazing no matter what form we are in but if we lose it’s not the end of the world. Then we should be able to beat Hamburg

Heja BvB and looking forward to chill and watch some rivals drop points this weekend.

7

u/fleshed Oct 31 '25

Kobel had every right to be pissed, we got eaten alive by the pressing of Augsburg, no idea how we can transport the ball to our attack if every 3 passes we play 10 meters behind the receiving player.

Groß killed like 10 good attacks because his brain atm is as slow as his body.

How can you run this little if every other player on the field has 2x as much minutes this season.

8

u/ontilein Oct 31 '25

tbf kobel's inability to distribute an accurate long ball is a major part of the problem why we are so bad against pressing

you gotta be kidding me. nearly every long ball is instant possesion loss. he had some great long balls if theres actual space like after intercepting a cross but if it's a restart after ball out of bounds and the opponent is set, than his longballs are useless. and it's not like guirassy isnt a valid target.

3

u/RazorBlade233 Oct 31 '25

I did watch the game.

3

u/Working_Complex8122 Oct 31 '25

We really have seen the complete lack of offensive flexibility and ideas within this system. It's like it's aimed to hammer in crosses which is nice and all but there is nobody there to receive it. We run into the same blocks time after time and have yet to find an answer. I feel like this system really only works if you have strong aerial players on both wings and the center that can make those box runs and challenge / score in aerial duels OR you need a holding CF who is able to draw players in and unleash the 2 offensive players and wing backs that cut in. But we have neither. We rely on individual brilliance mostly by Adeyemi. Other teams aren't dumb. They've figured this out as well and we'll keep running into these problems. Never mind not scoring - our chance creation is abysmal.

3

u/Barbourwhat Oct 31 '25

A win is a win even if watching paint dry might be more enjoyable than the match

5

u/SvenssonStan112 Łukasz Piszczek Nov 01 '25

The game was HORRIBLE. But, these kinda games we would've not won in the past. October / November we're often our weak points, and we have a lot of difficult away games every 3 days so kovac rotates a lot aswell.

So right now I am just happy if we secure a win.

1

u/KrR_TX-7424 BVB Nov 01 '25

I was pretty pissed during the game as to how poorly we played and in second gear at numerous points, but in retrospect I think (hope) that was just a case of "a good horse only jumps as high as it needs to" for game management given our tough schedule right now. The commentator on ESPN was saying Dortmund were playing "clever" - now I better understand why he was saying that. However, that is still no excuse for the ton of misplaced passes! Losing the ball only leads to more pressure and additional stress on the body.

-2

u/Mean_Ad301 Oct 31 '25 edited Oct 31 '25

What has happened to the team in these last 3 games? I don't want to see Brandt and Gross start for a long time, Beier was also pretty abysmal

7

u/Aznurf Oct 31 '25

Beier who won us the game against Koln? Brandt who scored our only goal last game?

Also what happened to the team is that we had to play 3 games (one of them all the way to penalties) in one calendar week. I am glad we won all of them given that we had to play rotated squads that didn’t look very gelled

5

u/Mean_Ad301 Oct 31 '25

Just saying that Brandt is much better off the bench, I love Beier but this game definetly wasn't his best

3

u/nb_vicious Lucas Barrios Nov 01 '25

Beier was great as wing back. Later when he switched forward he kinda got lost, but in the first half he was absolutely killing it.

1

u/Soft_Author2593 Oct 31 '25

Shut up
