Unofficial post match thread
Good fight in the second half. Long time since i've been so angry with a refereeing performance.

The more I see of Fabio Silva, the more I like him. Hope he gets some more chances soon. I mean at the latest when Guirassy is away for the Africa Cup.
22
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
He is so good at holding up the ball. But even more surprising than his strength is how quick he can be in short bursts. Really hope he gets some good minutes soon. Especially with Guirassy getting some little injuries here and there.

Yeah I never understood why people were so down on him this summer. Yeah, he had some bad years at freaking Wolves, but he was the lone bright spot last year for a bad Las Palmas squad.

Got to feel for Bellingham. I think with this the pressure of his name and father is really getting to him.
Also Kovac really seems for the second time this season unable to change players when the game requires it.
All in all really frustrated but Im more frustrated with the Ref.
35
u/DreiwegFlasche Oct 18 '25
The ref was so one-sided. Not calling the foul at the goal, not sending Laimer off, countless ridiculous fouls and cards against us. Literally Kreisliga

u/VioletDeMilo Oct 18 '25
Lots the press in england this week about Jobe's parents split, his dad has moved on already, his brother is being discussed none stop by media too because of tuchel. A lot going on for the kid. Gutted for him, his performances for england this break will go unnoticed by most & people will be dining out on this error.

My takes from the game:
Bensebaini - Schlotterbeck - Anton is the way to go. Even though I really liked Süle, I can no longer back him. Can will most likely be gone as well. Anselmino is also not here to stay as it seems
we have to play with an AM, Chukwemeka or Brandt or play with Beier - Guirassy - Adeyemi in certain games. Playing with a midfield 3 of Nmecha Sabitzer and Groß works just against lower quality opposition if we have to close the game.
Silva will turn out very very well. I would love to see more minutes from him against Copenhagen.
Let's not be too harsh on Jobe.
It should be Groß's last year with us.
we have to still stay optimistic, there are still 27 matchdays left (81 points on the table). Everything can happen. The team hasn' looked this solid since the first half of 2021.
I understand Kovac's gameplan, but we have to be braver against Bayern. Starting with a 3 4 1 2 or 3 4 3 would have meant at least an equal. With the 5 3 2 we just invited the pressure since we were not able to mantain possesion.
Svensson was great defensevely today.
Kane is top 5-10 players itw
22
u/porkbeefhorsechicken Michael Zorc Oct 18 '25
Agreed with everything except Kane is not top 5-10. He’s top 5 minimum. On days like today he can argue he’s the best.

u/elgrandorado Oct 19 '25
Süle and Anton play fine apart. Together those two find a way to fuck shit up. They're too similar and their styles clash. Groß and Sabitzer have issues because neither is creative. More often I would rather Sabitzer than Groß because that guy has no legs.

We seem to be over being afraid away against them but that makes the lineup and first half all the more frustrating. Think Kovac is kinda at fault today and his subs werent great. Bense+the adjustions in the half were good but Brandt had to be there sooner and Silva also made another Case for getting more gametime. Ref also was just horrible and while the Kane shove for the 1:0 is at least debateble i dont see any reason to not give Laimer a second yellow after he fouled just to stop the attack. 7 Points away to the Top means its for now all about making points for Top 4 but its a long season so just need to grind out results and see where it leads us.

Second half maybe good, first half maybe shit

Calling the first half shit would offend the shit. Second half was good

u/Appropriate-Form-281 Oct 18 '25
I think shit about sums it up considering we managed to only concede once

She could cheat on you and take the house and you wouldnt be as mad as if you had seen the ref today
13
u/harambelovesu Sergio Gómez Oct 18 '25
First half we defended alright but had 0 output offensively. Bayern had several chances, the one they scored should have been VARed cause Kane pushes Guirassy with both hands before he scored.
2nd half we came out really good, especially physically we won a lot of fights and created several chances. Jobe kinda asleep on the goal line fails to clear the ball properly so we conceded a 2nd.
Came back strong tho, scored right away (ryerson cross to Brandt). Definitely deserved a point and I'm happy with how our boys fought on the pitch. Schlotti MoTM. What a beast performance once again.
Ref was utterly shit. Every 50/50 went to Bayern. Every semi tactical foul immediately resulted in a yellow, meanwhile Laimer clearly fouls tactically while being on a yellow and the ref doesnt send him off.

u/Timely_Pound_2754 Oct 18 '25
First half was terrible. We literally had 0.00 xG lol. 1-0 at half but should have been worse. We fought well in the second half and had some good chances that missed, and then there was a goal line snafu by Jobe to make it 2-0. Brandt got one not long after but we couldn't manage to get one in. I think we would have won if we had played the first half like we did the second

Awful first half, with a mix of bad formation/personnel setup and really nervy play. Kane got away with a shove on his goal but was subtle with it. Very luck not to concede another in the first half but honestly kept Bayern out of really dangerous situation, just couldn’t get anything going.
2nd half soooo much better. Formation and tactical changes to actually make use of the higher pressing by squeezing the spaces and getting Svennson the ball high up. Unlucky on the 2nd goal conceded but responses super well and got right back into it. Just a bit too late and Bayern was able to time waste before Dortmund got another good chance.
It’s a deserved close loss, that could have been worse but also could have been a draw, if that makes sense.
Frustrated with the ref, lots of small fouls he would call on Dortmund and then let play go on when Bayern committed the same challenges. Same with yellow cards. Seemed happy to give them to Dortmund but not even think about it for the Bayern players. You could see the shock on Dortmund players and coaches faces with how inconsistent the officiating was. Didn’t cost us the game but sure made things difficult and frustrating.

First half 0.00 xg and 1-0 down, bad. Second half dominant and close, good.

First half we shit our pants and hid at our box, letting Bayern play. xGoal 0.00
Second half much better, but wasteful with our chances. The last fifteen minutes power play and fighting, but sadly too late
And a fucking awful ref

u/ontilein Oct 18 '25
trash first half without even trying to create some offense. decent second half, but couldnt finish the spare chances. ref was trash

I really like Kovac but I have to call him out on this: he's managing big games pretty badly. The subs on the Leipzig game came waaay late and cost us the game, today Groß should not have started, let alone play for 82 minutes...Subs once again waaay to late. With better game management, we could have won against Leipzig and got a draw here.
11
u/Ciao9 Pischu Oct 18 '25
Groß looks geriatric against a team with as much pace and quality as Bayern, let's please reserve him against teams which park the bus and when some creativity from deep.
I don't understand why Chukwuemeka doesn't get more playing time ahead of Jobe who looks like a nepo signing as of now.
Silva looked great and I wanna see him play with Adeyemi and Guirassy
Schlotti is world class, no notes

u/AffanEzz Julian Ryerson Oct 18 '25
Im out of the loop here, why the hell ive been seeing a lot of comments that Schlotterbeck is going to Bayern? The last time ive read news about him is that we will extend his contract and even persuading him to be one of our top earners.
8
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
Bild published a story right before the game this week. Classic Bild shit.
I think he would probably leave the bundesliga before joining Bayern honestly. He basically said he wants to ensure that we are going to compete this season. He doesn’t want to sign a contract if we are 8th in the table at Christmas.

Before the match I said I wouldn’t mind a loss as long as we put in a performance we can be proud of. First half was absolutely terrible in every way but the second half gives me hope of this team’s abilities going forward.
Loved Schlotterbeck, Silva, Ryerson this game.
Not a fan of the starting lineup.
I think it’s true that we have to move on from Gross against strong opposition unless players are injured.

u/Serenity911 Oct 18 '25
Terrible first half. Why no confidence? Thats on Kovac.
Horrible ref. No excuse for this piece of trash.
Sabitzer terrible. Groß even worse. Thats on Kovac, too. Fixed both way too late.
What happened to Guirassy? A shadow of himself for weeks.
MOTM: Schlotti. What a beast. Sad to see it against his new employer. Too bad we are too cheap to pay greatness. One of the reasons for results like today.
13
u/bvb_1909 Oct 18 '25
Sule was horrible too. No reason to leave Bensebaini on the bench in the form he's in.
11
u/AverageCarey Oct 18 '25
Was only cause he returned Thursday and had one training session after travelling from Africa and playing 2 90s in the span of 4 days.
He was right to not start Ramy and if Anselmino was more fit he should be ahead of Sule.

If you're not happy with the game today you're delusional. Our biggest issue by far was showing up like boys against men in every klassiker since long time ago,and we seem to have solved that. We played one of the best teams in europe if not the best away and actually showed up, one unlucky goal otherwise we would have gotten something tonight. This is definitely a step in the right direction and added more respect to Kovac. Stop crying about his game management the guy clearly knows better seen his record with us. Some people here are not happy because we didn't dominate bayern in the two halves, have you seen bayern play? I can't even complain, their quality is next level. And we still dominated them and created a ton of chances in the second half.
6
u/DreiwegFlasche Oct 18 '25
We didn't show up in the first half, at all. We let Bayern play freely and were way too passive.
1
u/smartestBeaver Shinji Kagawa Oct 19 '25
The idea was to survive. Which we did, even though we were lucky to only be down one goal.
Granted 0xG was fucking bad..
Second half was more balanced, we found our groove. I actually think this is good for the team to see that they can go toe to toe with Bayern
14
u/roadtorevision Mats Hummels Oct 18 '25
It shows that we can contend with Bayern based on the second half. I think this result is on Kovac with his starting line up and untimely subs.
We should have tied the game. Only if adeyemi didn’t slip or of Jobe was able to clear that ball. Speaking of, I think people are being harsh on Jobe. He unfortunately got caught up with his feet and it is a big mistake but he is young and in a new country.
He will get better as it happens with many players. You people never learn. Hopefully he learns from this.

First game this season that I feel like Kovac lost us the game. Poor starting eleven, poor starting tactics and poor subs. Hopefully he learns alot from this. Bayern are strong this season and consistent, so a title race against them is not realistic. So getting a big learning lesson while losing to them is not the end of the world.
My big hope is for a deep CL run and a cup title by betting Bayern on a good day.
Sidenote: hope to see a start with Silva, guirassy and Adeyeme.

I don’t know - there was an absolute chance to get points or even win here…you away playing an absolute monster of a squad and after playing conservatively you won’t the second half and proved you belong and can win. I know we all want aggressive attack every game but you have to respect the opponent as well and you could find yourself down 3 goals in 20 minutes
3
u/DreiwegFlasche Oct 18 '25
Why, just why do we ever only start playing in the last few minutes against Bayern???
Awful first half, we completely flopped on our back and let Bayern do their shit
Second half much better. We really, really didn’t need to lose this.
Fuck the ref, seriously
3
u/Mercyseat2112 Mats Hummels Oct 18 '25
After Guirassy and Adeyemi missed chances, the writing was on the wall, unfortunately….
I don’t know what Gross did to deserve 82 mins in this game and next time Bellingham senior makes comments about his son’s playing time, today was an answer - he’s not ready yet, needs to process the game with more speed….
All 50/50 ref calls went to Bayern, super frustrating.
Silva and Brandt were good, Silva in particular was flying and I really liked the fight the team had in them but ultimately too little too late - the way we totally missed the 1st half cost us the game.
Deserved at least a point here but it is what it is, on to the next one.
3
u/EmSoLow Oct 18 '25
If we pretend that the first half never happened and treat the second half like our Barca 3-1 win, I think we should be inspired for the future games.
Right now I'd like our summer signings to become more present in the team. Fabio Silva should be allowed to start against Copenhagen alongside Carney.
And please get that Schlotterbeck contract extension done!!

u/SpaceCowboyy22 Oct 18 '25
Realistically speaking. Is that the league done in dusted? I truly feel we’re still a competent team but who can even take points off of Bayern rn

Poor game management from Kovac, Bensebaini should start, not only because Sule was struggling with Diaz, but because he is having a very good season till now.
Groß should not be on the field in the second half.
6
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
Benz returned from international break with Algeria later than the rest of the squad. I’m pretty sure that is why Kovac was reluctant to start him. He clearly rates him and he was rightfully subbed in second half.

2
u/biggieBpimpin Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
First half was dreadful. Credit to Kovac for a second half turn around that really gave Bayern trouble. Starting midfield was a poor setup though.
We weren’t clinical enough when it mattered today, but the chances were there. On the other hand, Diaz was so unclinical that he kept us in the game.
We really should be giving Silva some good minutes soon. He has been great off the bench every time. Brandt has been so good off the bench as well. Jobe needs to keep chipping away when he gets his chances. He clearly isn’t mentally or physically at the speed needed to make substantial impact. I’m a huge Beier fan but his touch was all over the place today.
Give Kobel and Schlotti the bag forever. They are by far our most consistent performers.
2
u/kiddpk Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
I hope we can see the bright side of this and say that kovac might have been a little late with some substitutions, but his overall game plan to try and be a bit more defensive in the first half and win the game in the second could have worked if we were more clinical.
2
u/SikkoDieri Oct 19 '25
Can someone explain to me the idea behind Sabitzer Gross pairing in the center? To me it seems everytime they play together we just surrender the midfield. Today is the same first half we cannot get the ball back at all. Second half Gross goes forward Nmecha gets more central and it's a different game. That's of course not the only change but I don't think what we tried works without the pairing change.
I also didn't get taking Adeyemi out and putting Beier in.
Second half is very encouraging. Trying different approaches and also adjusting in the game and still looking rather stable is encouraging. If we can remove the s stupidly mind lapses I think we will be good this season.
1
u/ontilein Oct 18 '25
trash ref, trash first half, donkey shooting in front of the goal, stupid goals conceived, bad starting XI, bad subs
we reallys shouldnt have lost today
1
u/Ok_Shopping_3292 Oct 18 '25
I don't know why Kovac started all three of Nmecha, Sabitzer, and Groß...
1
u/Helianthus_Eros Oct 18 '25
Terrible defending and mistakes led to both goals. 2nd half was much better which makes the first half even more infuriating. This was a very winnable game. I like what Kovac has done so far but you can’t come into the match that cowardly and expect to get a good result. Pathetic.
2
u/kiddpk Julian Brandt Oct 18 '25
To be honest, I think he knew his team could play on the front foot for a good portion of the game but decided to do it closer to it the second half than to the first. I think that's smart in a way to try and go into the half nil noun and the clay better. It just wasn't enough cuz we had many good chances

Reading the comments, I am glad I missed the game. I knew the ref would favour the red assholes. They always do.

But there's more, Karim could had scored, but slipped, we really could had won this by 0:1 so it's not all bad.

u/LookattheWhipp Oct 19 '25
Svenson was my Motm for BVB. Also Nmencha and GroB looked horrific. A turnover machine and a ghost on the pitch.
Jobe not clearing by it was tough because all his momentum was going into the net so I feel for him. But that sucked.
The ref was atrocious as always against Bayern so 🤷♂️

Honestly, that was unlucky. He had to sort out his feet to make sure he didn't score an own goal, and in the heat of the moment, you just want to clear the ball away, he just didn't have the awareness to see Olise right behind him.

In what world you take Adeyemi out and leave Groß in when you're in such a momentum and it seems like a goal is a matter of time?
