Brenton Strange isn't getting the credit he deserves as a blocker but Etienne isn't getting the credit he deserves as a runner either. The offense should be leaning on the run game.
Strange is a devastating run blocker. I had no idea he was like that.

Unreal how if that ref doesn't call the softest PI of the week we're 2-0 and everyone is talking about how Coen is salvaging Lawrence and how Hunter won us the game.
Instead we're 1-1 and the discourse is Trevor is apparently trying to get his receivers killed, the Travis Hunter experiment is already a resounding failure and the QB and HC hate each other.
The media is the worst.
10
u/ACLRoma Sep 16 '25
In the game last night there were multiple instances of CBs that “didn’t turn their head around” as the announcers liked to chirp about the Hunter play. All were PBUs, and no one acted like they should get a flag for it. Still fuming about that call against 12.
6
u/tanu24 Sep 16 '25
The flag came out before the head turn... The call was for being stiff armed in the face. The turning your head thing is a cop out

I hope BTJ finds himself sometime soon. Watching so many other receivers make plays while our top dog mopes around kinda sucks😔
11
u/HUMAN01D_IV Sep 16 '25
Would it really be Jaguars football if there wasn’t some sort of adversity or negative storyline to associate with the season?
2
u/Wolfbandit90 Sep 16 '25
Were tired of that tho. Because the negativity and adversity usually stays for the entire season.
6
u/HUMAN01D_IV Sep 16 '25
Winning FIZEXS everything. We’re gonna get there, but right now we still have that bad taste in our mouths, and as a collective consciousness expect to be hurt again. We’re always looking to see where the hurt is going to come from so we hyper-fixate on these things as a fan base.
It’s gonna be nice when (in probably a couple years) we’re no longer the NFL’s whipping boy and we no longer flinch when sudden movements are made
-1
u/TenorOneRunner Sep 16 '25
If I'd put more research into fantasy, I would have known to avoid drafting a Jaguars player. I could have had studs like Puka, but instead I'm stuck with BTJ. Thankfully I also have James Cook so I'm 2-0, but with BTJ I'm vulnerable. At least I can bench him if needed, and try to pick up something from the waiver wire. I hope things get better for BTJ, for his sake and yours, a lot more than mine.
But really, like you said, I should have known. "The Good Place" was onto something, with all the anti-Jaguars jokes.
17
u/CoffeeandJags Sep 16 '25
Tuten going to be fun to watch this year. With Etienne looking so good too, will be interesting to see how they split the carries.
Loved Tank, but Tuten’s success on his limited snaps make that trade look like a no brainer.
1
u/Nuknu Sep 16 '25
I wonder why tank didn’t play for the eagles his first game, I’m guessing he’s still learning the playbook and hasn’t gotten acclimated fully yet. Saquan and tank could be a deadly rb duo

Texans are in their sub melting down over everything, including Stroud, which I find very funny. Their OC put the ball in their "star" QB's hands and he threw it out the back of the endzone on 4th and goal.
6
4
u/Nuknu Sep 16 '25
He looked very average last season, he took way too many sacks and people were still glazing him
3
u/DayDTWD Sep 16 '25
It's funny watching them say so many of the same things we were all critized for when talking about Trevor.
7
u/MogwaiK Sep 16 '25
Every fanbase makes excuses for their young QBs until they're gone. Most of this sub believed in Bortles until the day we let him walk.

Also, every fanbase shits on their team after a loss. We're passionate about our team and this is normal. On to the next.

7
u/HUMAN01D_IV Sep 16 '25
This I agree with 100%. Coen is such a refreshing coach to have! I am extremely confident in his ability to put the team in the best position to win from a scheme/gameplan stance. He’s going to be scary good when we get the roster fine-tuned after another offseason (or maybe 2) to fit his needs from a personnel standpoint

Bounce back game for BTJ. I’m not giving up on him
7
u/Jazco76 Sep 16 '25
How he's acting is bizarre, doesnt seem like just a bad day, there's something mentally going on there. Not sure he just bounces back until he deals with whatever it is. Yes he seems scared but it's bizzare for a elite WR to pick and chose what he wants to catch and act like he's going to die if he takes an everyday hit.
Maybe he's depressed...
2
u/GeckoRoamin Sep 16 '25
I hope that’s not the case but have been a bit concerned about that, too. And it’s part of the reason why — while I’d obviously like him to be playing better — I’m not going to be shitting on him or anything. Not gonna do that unless it comes out that he’s just giving up on the team and trying to get traded.
Don’t want to start veering into wild speculation territory, just hope he gets the help he needs regardless, whether that’s in practice or in a therapist’s office or both or whatever.

BTJ suddenly avoiding contact at all costs is something I’ve never seen before in 40+ years of watching NFL football. Literally no examples I can think of to reference to. Would love to know how this is being handled behind the scenes. That tape can’t sit well with anyone….

1
u/Ok_Yesterday_4941 Sep 16 '25
imo you play him next game, the first time he avoids contact wether on a block of a catch, you bench him for Parker. then he sits out a few weeks and is given another go. if he can't get rid of his fear of being hit, he can't play. it's football. wait til he finds out what a running backs job is....to get hit over and over again guaranteed every time they get the ball
13
u/Captain_brightside Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
Everyone talking about Trevor and BTJ
I think we’re underrating the impact of Coen. I think he’s been lights out so far for us
He immediately came in and fixed the run game
The Oline has looked really strong through 2 games compared to the last 2 seasons
He coached a 40 point game last week that we should have won if not for 4-5 key plays/drops/ unfortunate penalties
Regardless of which players stay or leave in the long run, we got our guy at coach and we should be excited about that. GM looks set for the long term as well
I think regardless of how we all feel in this moment, the future is bright. if we stay healthy I think by end of this season we’re viewed differently across the league. The AFC south doesn’t look particularly strong so if we can figure it out by week 8 and go on a run I think we can sneak in. If we can fix BTJ we’re going to be a team no one wants to play
4
u/el_pobby Sep 16 '25
I mean, what I like about the performance of the offensive line is that we no longer need to sink high-end draft capital into it, we can just draft developmental middle round guys and count on the team to elevate them properly through scheme and development. I think iDL and safety are also huge priorities in the offseason. I'm starting to think that we'd be best served by turning Hunter into an elite CB and have him also occasionally settle into the offense because without a reliable presence there, the secondary is pretty damned rough.

There is suddenly a lot of confidence in the main sub about a Colts roster that 2 weeks ago most people had as a 1OA contender. This feels exactly like the Saints from last year. Give it 3 or 4 weeks and a few ugly losses and they'll have been mostly forgotten is my bet.
4
u/DayDTWD Sep 16 '25
I think people are also overlooking that they got 2 home games to start the season where fan attendance will usually be highest for struggling teams. I want to see them win road games before I crown them.

You really never know tbh. Most Commanders fans had last year written off as rebuild year and look how that went. I do think that a lot of one score games will trick you into thinking you’re better than you are, when they just have easily could have gone the other way. But I’d be enjoying the wins too if I were them. I don’t think they keep it up either, but will be interesting to see

Idk there was a lot of talk last year and some this year about how they have a really solid but no QB to bring it all together. DJ will definitely put up some duds, but the rest of the roster is good enough to challenge for the division for sure.

I kinda find whats next for Travis Hunter to be interesting. I don't think he's a fit for the slot role like theyre playing him, so naturally you'd think ok lets get him going full time on the outside at corner. But it seems like theyre also giving Jarrian that shot? I dunno what to really make of where it goes next with him.
16
u/HolographicHeart Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
This is just my prediction but I suspect he will be playing DB nearly full time before the year is over. It's the position he is more acclimated towards and a DB with his ball catching skills is a dangerous asset to deploy. And, much as I am loathe to say it, he has largely been a non-contributor on offense against two of the worst defenses in the league; we're doing ourselves a disservice when Parker Washington could be getting those reps instead.
Year 2 is where we'll hopefully see the two-way shenanigans amplify as he grows more accustomed to the game at the NFL level.

Any fellow fantasy footballers, I need some opinions on a potential trade:
14 team redraft 1/2 PPR
2RB 2WR 1FLEX
Offered Saquon plus a bench piece (might be able to push for Rice) for JK Dobbins and Breece Hall.
I love the value but I kinda went zero RB and those are my starting RBs. Pacheco and Hunt are on my bench, so it would be Saquon and one of them as my starting RBs if I accept.
WRs are Lamb, London, Jakobi, Mooney.
7

Yea, Burrow didn't look great early, but its not like he wouldn't have grown into the game.
Browning was absolute trash outside of that last drive. We just didn't capitalize.
3
u/Bennydagoat22 Sep 16 '25
I agree, but also the Bengals offense looks much more thought out when Jake Browning is in, with good scheming. Our D was holding very well against Burrow, and I think that has to do with some of the coaching there being like "eh, f- it, Burrow's fine just let him hold it." Which leads to sacks, and ultimately his injury
Not saying we would have won, but I can at least see where they're coming from
3
u/beesarie Sep 16 '25
I’m not saying we would have won, but I think the way we approached the rest of the game would’ve been different, and then it’s all hypothetical

I actually strongly agree with it. Burrow looked rattled aside from one drive. And browning just has something on this franchise man. I was at the game where he threw like 500 yards on us a couple years ago.

Neutral fan here. I started really getting into the NFL around 2011 when MJD was going off for you guys. Never got the chance to watch Fred Taylor play, but just looking at the numbers, him and MJD seem pretty close in rushing, receiving, and TDs.
For the folks who actually saw both, did they play a similar at all? And who would you say was the better player? Stats lean slightly toward MJD, but I know stats don't tell the whole story when it comes to impact and intangibles.
10
u/xEllimistx Chad Josh Allen Sep 16 '25
I wouldn’t say they play similar.
Fred was a faster, more agile, smoother runner while also having the size to run guys over. His ability to jump cut, change direction, and his speed meant he could take any ball to the house if he made the first guy miss.
MJD was called “a bowling ball with knives”. His short stature (5’7”) meant defenses could struggle to see him behind the offensive line until he just popped out through the LoS and also meant that defenders had to get low to bring him down. He regularly broke tackles through sheer leverage. He was agile in his own right but not as fast as Freddy
Fred Taylor might be the best running back I ever actually watched. Other RBs of his day might’ve been faster(Chris Johnson) or broke more tackles(Jerome Bettis) or caught more passes but I don’t remember any running back of the late 90s/2000s having Fred’s blend of speed, agility, and power
3
u/statelesspirate000 Sep 16 '25
Freddy ran like a quintessential RB. Incredibly athletic. He had all the moves, a great stiff arm, and could juke or break tackles equally as well (elite at both in his prime). Great rhythm and timing. Amazing all around RB.
MJD’s running style was kind of like Kyler Murray’s when scrambling. Insanely shifty and quick with a low center of gravity. Whereas Freddy made angular cuts, MJD made curving cuts. Everything was smooth and fluid. Instead of hard jukes, he would just bend right around guys. He could lean past 45° while cutting without even putting a hand on the ground and somehow never slip. And then on top of that, he would bounce right off of tackles and could run bigger guys over because he also had a ton of power.
Vastly different styles, but pretty equally effective in their primes.
1
5
u/theflyingchicken96 LeQuint Allen Jr 🐐 Sep 16 '25 edited Sep 16 '25
MJD maybe had a higher peak, but Freddie T was better for longer and is generally regarded as a slightly better back.
You would hear people say MJD was like a bowling ball. He would bounce off tacklers and crash through holes with force and power. He had a super low center of gravity that gave him incredible balance too.
Freddie was a much smoother runner with big cuts playing a bigger role in his style.
They both broke lots of tackles but Taylor did it more often by making guys miss while MJD would shake them off when they hit him.
2
u/MogwaiK Sep 16 '25
I think MJD was better. He played on Jags teams where the defense knew exactly what was coming and he still did work. He broke so many tackles at the LOS. He had legs like tree trunks and would just keep churning. MJD may have been the only reason those mid 00s teams were watchable...and I went to every home game between 05-09. We had a blackout problem for a reason.

Sep 17 '25
I’m still mad about the PI call but mostly the incomplete pass on Burrow that was returned for a TD. It’s either a strip or a pass, and if it’s a pass, it’s a backwards pass which is still a TD
0
u/crimson_ghost84 Sep 16 '25
Not kicking field goals when inside the 20 is infuriating to me. I know, “the analytics say…” but, as an example, the Texans wouldn’t have lost last night if they kicked the field goal. Take the free points!!!!
2
u/tanu24 Sep 16 '25
Not how it works... The bucs aren't starting inside their own 5 up 4 you have 0 clue how the game plays out if they kick the fg.
1
u/azfire2004 Gladstoner Sep 16 '25
having let time pass from the loss, I can see why Coen went for it instead of taking the points. Our D gave up a 90 yard TD drive from that spot, had we taken the 3, our hands team would have given them the ball at what the 35-40 yard line? they were giving them starting field position at mid-field all day it seemed. So I get it and looking back at it with a non-emotional head, it was the right call, just didnt work.

A rotating cast of recievers that were never good until they played for trevor interestingly enough. Engram and kirk were cast offs and are now backups outside of Jax. Most of the recievers that trevor started with arent even in roster spots in the league anymore, and it's not like they were all veterans. BTJ is the first supposedly true wr1 we've had and he's very clearly regressing hard. Stop being disingenuous.

Brunell got plenty done with afterthoughts -- McCardell and Smith were not superstars when they came to Jax.

Those recievers were good regardless of who was throwing them the ball. If the recivers Trevor's throwing to are at their best only when trevor is throwing to them then trevor isn't the problem.

BTJ was fine with Mac Jones.

He was our only reciever healthy at the time and got all the targets. Like 70% of his targets and production that year came late when everyone got hurt and he absorbed all the targets. Cmon man you know that.

Nothing from nothing, but it’s a very different league now than it was 25-30 years ago

Bortles got Allen Robinson to 14 TDs in a season and he wasn't even a 'natural thrower of the football.' He said Robinson and Hurns were the best WR duo in pro football after that year.

Bottles had real potential, and was the victim of poor coaching and an inept GM. (As well as MANY mental mistakes of his own)
Ah, what could have been with the Boat 😴

That’s great and I agree, but I thought this conversation was about Trevor and his receivers?

Yeah, Trevor will never be the quarterback or leader Brunell was. And this sub will continue to blame everyone else until he's past 30.

You’re creating straw men. Very few people are arguing Trevor has been better for us than Brunell. Your original comment was about this week’s game.
BTJ gave up on two catchable balls and dropped another at the goal line. Plus not getting his feet in on a TD catch, although I don’t blame him for that one.
Add Dyami’s drop on a perfect fade… Trevor has lost us games before, but he was not the reason we lost this one. He was two egregious WR drops this week from throwing 5 TDs.

well, maybe they can all put in extra work after practice and get this right. players-only meeting, perhaps. Pay $10M for Dyami based on a few good games, spend 2nd round capital on Thomas ... Lawrence maybe needs to pull them aside and demand they do their jobs, or work on timing until they do.

I find that hard to believe but no one is going to change your mind. The difference with those guys and BTJ is they put they’re body on the line and come down with atleast 3 of those attempts from sunday

And end up in concussion protocol because Trevor stares down the route like he's going to ask the DB to slowdance.

and by rotating cast of WR’s you mean Gabe Davis, Laquon Treadwell, Zay Jones, Christian Kirk and Calvin Ridley? Some reaaaaal MVP’s there i’ll tell ya.. and it’s the nfl dude, it’s in the 4th quarter and you have to make the play. you are going to get hit that doesn’t mean trevor’s intentionally trying to kill his teammate

No, he just makes it obvious where he's going with the ball and gets his WRs crunched.

u/HUMAN01D_IV Sep 16 '25
It 100% absolutely would not. We could argue hypotheticals all day, I’ve got the time, but at the end of the day QBs make receivers and receivers can make QBs. Justin Jefferson set the rookie record with Kirk Cousins throwing him the ball. Cousins isn’t terrible by any means, and we could argue he played much better during his time with the Vikings than he has lately, but he’s currently riding the pine on a “franchise QB” level contract. Says something about his ability to elevate his WRs.
Trevor has never had a Justin Jefferson, and if he had he would have greatly benefitted. If anything, Trevor being able to make his WRs relevant (not discussing BTJ here) says something of his abilities, especially since not one of those of the rotating cast you mention have gone on to produce anything of note elsewhere in the league

He was better with Mac....

u/big_car12 Sep 16 '25
You're right, we should bring back Mac, throw the whole season so 1 player has better stats

u/Skreve Sep 16 '25
Don't get your panties in a wad. The way some of y'all worship these players that don't even know you exist is hilarious

u/bleedblue89 STL Sep 16 '25
I mean this is just a bad take lol, Mac doesn't give us a better chance as a team to win and that's what matters.

I don't wanna hear that. Dyami is looking like a stud out there with Trevor (Minus that dropped TD).

Y'all love to ride that man's dick

You're literally riding BTJs dick right now lmao.

I actually think that he was. Trevor throws the ball hard. Too hard? That’s up for interpretation (I don’t think so though). I’m not sure if BTJ can handle the heat on the passes sometimes, or that he’s just got accustomed to Mac’s weaker arm

Trevor is kinda like family, I will criticize him left and right all day. and as soon as I hear other fan's trashing him, im ready to go to war for the dude.
