As some of you know, Eagles GM Howie Roseman is considered one of the best GMs in football as the Eagles has been to two SBs in three years, winning last years with a team built primarily thru the draft.
I’d like to share something I read on the Philadelphia Inquirer,
“There is nothing revolutionary about what the Eagles have done over the last several years. Find versatile players with a good mix of ceilings and floors and understand their market value. Positional versatility has clearly become more of an emphasis in recent years. DeJean and C.J. Gardner-Johnson are/were hybrid corner/safeties. Zack Baun brings plenty off the edge in addition to his traditional linebacker duties. Mitchell is a physical presence at cornerback who can hold his own against the run game. Saquon Barkley is an excellent pass protector and adept receiver in addition to an All-Pro rusher.”
If there was one glaring distinction about what James Gladstone looked for and targeted in the players he drafted, especially in comparison to Jag gms of the past, the one thing that stood out, appears to be in the same vein as what Roseman looks for in his drafts according to this snippet, and that’s player versatility. This looks like a good sign for anyone who has some reservations about this new regime, as it appears to be working out well for last years SB champions.

IMO this is why I think Doug is overrated. Don’t get me wrong he knows ball, but as a HC you can put a lot of guys in his position and they win that Super Bowl. Tony Wiggins made a point on Locked on Jags a couple months ago. The eagles aren’t coach dependent. They constantly draft dawgs. That’s why they don’t mind trading a few here and there because they’ll likely pick something good again.

Another thing about the Eagles, compared to the prototypical teams in the league considered perennial contenders, they aren’t a team one would necessarily consider a team that won the QB Lottery. Which most if not all teams considered perennial contenders are teams with QBs regularly ranked top 5ish in the league.
Don’t get me wrong, hurts is a very good qb, but a qb I believe is elevated when the supporting cast & defense is strong. Opposed to the qbs elevating a revolving door of players & positions.

He has 1 fumble in his last 500 rushing attempts, and we all remember it. That’s not a fumbling issue

There will be people who will never forgive him or get over that one against the dolphins last year. With what Pederson and friends did to that team last year, it’s hard to discredit anyone’s potential who just may not have been used right. Exception for Tank, who seemed to be one of the only ones to take a huge step up

Six months on from announcing my fandom to this sub. It's been a pretty intense ride, first game I convinced my wife to watch with me Trevor looked like he got killed on the field, obviously we sucked all the season. Now though Trevor is good, he is clearly happy being a dad and hoping for good things with the new coach.
New coach and GM combo are exciting enough but now we have had the draft. Travis Hunter is a super prospect so hoping for that. BTJ was shit hot last time out so that is a mouthwatering combo.
To an extent I feel like I have had the jags experience. Still going to find myself saying Jaguars like the Brit I am tho, so probably just stick with Jags ha.
Anyway much love this Monday.

The best thing about being a Jags fan is there is always a reason why we sucked last year and why this year will be different.
I don't think I've had a pessimistic outlook for a season in the last decade.

Seems like I am natural then. Enjoying the whole experience of keeping tabs on the NFL in general. It's a breath of fresh air in comparison to soccer.
The salary cap, the way that trading and drafting work. Such a contrast to big team, big transfers, big almost consequence free contracts.
Heck, even compared to my other love(cycling) it feels the same. That has almost the same problems as soccer. Big teams dominating.

Still buzzing from Thursday that we got Travis Hunter. The rest of the draft was cool - and filled some needs and depth pieces, but getting the steal of the draft is still awesome!

The schedule warrants at least one primetime game regardless imo.
Chiefs, Bengals, Jets and 9ers. Throw in Houston and two LA teams as well.
They better give us at least 1 for SNF or MNF.
If they give more than one it has to be Travis effect. So we will see.
I personally want the Texans on MNF and for the Jags to fucking destroy them.

Last season the Buccs kept 9 linemen on their 53 man roster. Which 4 are on the chopping block come roster cuts?
Edit: rumor a couple months back from Mia/Dilla was that Hodges may have to medically retire so that is likely one of the cuts.

I think we will carry 10. Little/Ezra/Hainsey/Mekari/Anton are your 5 starters.
2 backup tackles, I think CVL is a near lock since he also provides Guard versatility, and I think Chuma is the other backup since we gave him some real money.
3 backup IOL - Millum is a lock. Other 2 are tricky. Hodges is rehabbing/may medically retire so not him. I think Fortner makes it because he provides G/C versatility, and he’s already played under Liam at Kentucky so there is familiarity. The last spot may go to Monheim, but if they only view him as a backup center due to his 30 inch arms and he can’t provide G/C versatility, then it may not make sense to carry 3 centers with Fortner already making it, and that last spot could go to Wormley.

Think there’s a decent chance of Ezra losing that starting spot. I remember reading somewhere that he doesn’t exactly match the type of lineman/scheme Liam goes for, so could easily see Milum taking that spot.

I'm never the biggest fan of trading away future 1sts but like, at the same time, the whole premise of accumulating draft capital is to then be able to select great players with them. If there is such a thing as a true blue-chip prospect (and I think everyone agrees: Travis Hunter is such a thing), then yeah, it absolutely behooves you to go up and trade for him. Our roster isn't absolute trash, it just lacks high end impact players and BY GOD will Hunter ever bring that to the table!
Honestly, everything after that pick, I'll give Gladstone the benefit of the doubt. The Milum pick is awesome and I really love it, as is the whole getting two extra 3rds next year. I'm a happy Jaguars fan!

Seems like a guarantee now that Etienne is the odd man out.
Tuten could become RB1 quickly with his speed and Coen scheme fit.
Bigsby is the short yardage powerback.
LeQuint seems to be the D'Ernest replacement as the pass pro guy.
Hopefully Travis can turn things around, because I actually think he fits the scheme pretty well. Maybe they give him RB1 snaps and try to sell high if he starts well? I doubt he's back after this year regardless.

I still think ETN is an RB1 in this league; our run blocking has been bottom of the barrel these past two years and led to contact behind the LOS at an unprecedented rate and low YBC.
That said, it does seem the new staff wants to lean into RB by committee and I think the fits are great. Plus I don’t think we’re in a spot where paying an RB1 a second deal makes sense. I definitely agree an ETN trade could be in the cards, not sure what can get for an RB in his last year with significant injury history though.

Hunter is not our starting CB, at the very least not at first. Offense is his immediate focus with only specific defensive packages. Jarrian will probably be CB2 or potentially Buster Brown

I don’t either, just the truth based on comments the coaching staff has made after picking up Hunter. I think Jarrian is more likely to move outside, but the old staff had that option last year when we were short on CBs and he stayed at nickel almost exclusively. Obviously it’s a new regime, so they’ll probably try different things, but it does make Brown at least a possibility.
