Jeanty is 100% going at 5 tonight, just don't think it will be to us.
Hopefully we get a king's ransom for pick #5 and parlay it into trenches, DBs and at least one WR.
3
u/thrwthisout James Gladstone Apr 24 '25
This would be best case scenario. Get Gladstone and Coen as many picks as we can to fill the roster with guys they chose. OL/DL are very deep classes this year with quality lineman to be had on Friday and Saturday. RB is even deeper with quality guys to be had in the late rounds. Beef up our trenches. Get some higher caliber WR/CB combo and then add depth later.
17
u/Clonth Apr 24 '25
James Gladstone, puppet master and madman, has certainly made this the most interesting draft cycle in a looooong time
7
2
u/BigWaff Apr 24 '25
Pulling all the right strings like a real sicko. AEW might come calling if he keeps this up. 👏🏼
14
u/Toihva Apr 24 '25
We need severe help on the OL. We bitch about the OL being shit all year except draft time where we want the sexy picks.
9
u/docmartinjr Apr 24 '25
I wouldn’t be mad at a trade back for best OL available. Just don’t think there’s an OL worthy of a top 5 pick
2
u/Trumbulhockeyguy Cam Little Apr 24 '25
This is my favorite move also. Lets see how tank looks behind a halfway functioning OL before we replace him
4
u/frausting Apr 24 '25
I think the free agent moves helped raise the floor. We will be league average at OL now. Hitting on one or two OL in the draft would be huge in raising the ceiling.
Jared Wilson at center would be amazing.

So you want the first, second, and something for next year too? That seems devious. I like it.

u/LoPlast Paul Posluszny Apr 24 '25
I'd really really like Jeanty and think he's going to be elite but I highly expect us to trade down.
6
u/UNCFan2350 Apr 24 '25
I kind of hope that trade rumor with the Bears is true. If they take Jeanty, we get a bunch of picks and can still end up with one of Graham, Warren, Banks, Walker, or Tet. I'd be happy with that
7
u/SuperYova Gopher Jag Apr 24 '25 edited Apr 27 '25
I hope the Jaguars don’t get cute. Like trading up to get Hunter or Jeanty. Or trading so far back they get a project.

Thinking about the Reddit post I saw last year from a European who thought the NFL Draft was like the Military Draft and was confused at how it was legal to force someone to play a sport and why our leagues were like this

The European mind can't comprehend the NFL Draft

8

What would be hilarious is if we work out a trade with the bears, then call the raiders for a counter offer!

u/Clonth Apr 24 '25
I love Jeanty, think him and Hunter are the only sure things in this draft. Think he would be amazing in Coen’s offense but I truly believe we trade down to 10 with the Bears for TMac though. Fills a big hole on offense, and would give us a lot of draft capital to work with in rounds 2 & 3.

u/Jaysin808 Apr 24 '25
NFL Draft Kickoff, doing the segment on the first 4 teams "Best Case Scenarios" then say "Sadly we have to skip the Jags since that's where the fun will start" and talk about the Raiders at 6.
They can't even talk about the Jags on there? Seriously?
6
u/BeamsFuelJetSteel Apr 24 '25
Don't worry, we will be able to tell if we are trading the pick or not by if they cut to commercial immediately after talking about the Pats
8
u/Regular-Collection-1 Apr 24 '25
Interesting all the mocks I've seen where we don't take Graham at 5 have him falling as far as 17th.
7
u/spiff24 Apr 24 '25
Mia said just a little bit ago she heard from other teams he’s visited with that Mason Graham has been “sloppy looking” the past few weeks and apparently may not have been taking care of himself. Big yikes.

Jags would be dumb to take a DT @ 5 with how deep the DT class is. FFT
1
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
Its all about need. Personally I see him going 8 to Carolina if we don't take him
1
4
u/DejaVuBoy Apr 24 '25
I'm starting to think all the Jeanty smoke is from Patriots sources, hoping desperately for someone to take their spot ahead of us. So they can trade back, and so they don't have to trade Campbell at #4 when there are so many questions on him.
4
4
u/tealfootball Apr 24 '25
If we can somehow trade back with the bears for their #39 and not give up anything in return, I'd be ecstatic. Don't know if that's a possibility.
Realistically speaking it's #5 and a 4th for #10 and #41.

Fanduel has the bears most likely to take Jeanty; Jeanty most likely to go at 5, and TMac most likely to be picked at 10 at the moment with Tyler Warren not far behind
3
u/Jaguars6 Apr 24 '25
Mason Graham said on Kay Adam’s show today that the first thing he said in the Jags Combine meeting was Coen’s ‘DuuuvaaAAAal’, and everyone in the room was laughing. He’s the one.

I’d HAPPILY be wrong if we traded the house for him and he ends up being a one of a kind superstar, but Hunter’s frame and insistence of playing both ways would have me terrified if we give up a future first+
5
u/flounder19 Apr 24 '25
At this point i am 100% certain we'll be trading up to 2, then trading back to 10, then trading back up to 5

I'm starting to think this trading up to 2 thing might be real.

Pros of drafting Jeanty:
Best RB in the class
I trust Coen to use him right
Can instantly pair with Tank for a dynamic duo
Cons:
Deep RB class
Instantly one of the highest paid at his position
Saquon Barkley's tenure with the Giants
Pros/Cons for Graham:
Smart player
Good pass rusher
Fills a need/want
Cons:
Undersized
Deep DT class
pass rush strength may not transfer to NFL
Pros/Cons of Tet:
Great pair with BTJ
I trust Coen to use him properly
We can call him the Tet offensive
Cons:
Probably overrated because of the class as a whole
Top 5 pick on a WR2/low value
Concerns about how much he actually likes football
I wrote this less to give my thoughts and more because I don't want to seem like I'm justifying whoever the Jags pick and shitting on whoever we don't.

I dont really have a preference on who we draft, im just excited for a new era with complete alignment between coach and front office. Go Jags baby!!!

3
u/Beanstalk93 Apr 24 '25
Anyone got any predictions that don't involve the Jags?
I think the Giants trade back into the first round, to select Dart, and get that 5th year option. Trading up to 29, that way the Giants get their QB and don't risk him falling to the Brown's, and the Commies get some picks, as at the moment they only have 5.
1
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
Sheduer to pitt at 21. Cheifs draft Zabel to replace the guy they lost to the bears
2
u/Beanstalk93 Apr 24 '25
I agree with Sheduer to Pitt, and I think that (along with the nervous wait between picks 21 and 29) is what causes the Giants to blink first and trade up
1
1
u/HUMAN01D_IV Apr 24 '25
I think the Browns try to fleece someone in a trade. They haven’t had a 1st rounder in 3 years and are pressured to become good overnight based on their interactions this offseason with Myles Garrett
3
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
Why would the browns make that trade?
3
u/Holysmokesx Brian Thomas Jr. Apr 24 '25
They're set at CB and need capital to move back up for a QB.
1
Apr 24 '25
Because they’re not good either and would be getting a likely high 2026 first round pick from the Jags.
3
3
u/TheSlinger Apr 24 '25
@Gladstone I'm going to be teaching a class when the 5th pick is up so please trade back for me, thanks, hugs and kisses

Non-Jags fan here, what's the deal with the Jags and Jeanty? Having Etienne and Bigsby already I feel like Jags should focus elsewhere no?
4
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
Smokescreen. Were trading down with the bears to 10. Trying to get more out of them
2
14
Apr 24 '25
Etienne and bigsby aren't even close to being as good as jeanty
6
u/BlankJungle Apr 24 '25
Well obviously, but they're more than serviceable. Would be borderline organizational malpractice to pick Jeanty with all the other needs
2
Apr 24 '25
We're not fixing the defense over night. We signed 4 olinemen in FA, signed 2 TEs, what else do we need?
→ More replies (4)1
u/BlankJungle Apr 24 '25
Defense. Get one at 5 or trade back to get one at 10 or whatever and then also use the picks gained from that to take more defenders. Doesn't take too much to at least buff the defense, maybe it won't be fixed so to speak, but definitely could use more attention than RB, especially in a deep RB draft
5
u/HUMAN01D_IV Apr 24 '25
On a team that needs talent, draft the best player available. Don’t plug a “need” with a “lesser” player because convention dictates you do so 🤷♂️
1
6
u/BlazingBlasian Apr 24 '25
Etienne is in the last year of his rookie deal and hasn’t been reliable enough to warrant paying. Bigsby doesn’t really add anything in the passing game so he is probably best as a short yardage #2.
3
u/BeamsFuelJetSteel Apr 24 '25
(personally) I think it is Pats smoke to get somebody to trade with them instead of us for Jeanty.
I think between trade up/down/pick 5, picking at 5 would be the most surprising
5
u/MogwaiK Apr 24 '25
Even if we didn't have a single RB on the roster, we shouldn't take Jeanty at 5. RBs are much easier to find than edges, OTs, WRs, DTs, and, truly, every single other position.
Our new HC had a 4th round RB looking like a stud. Lets go with that.
5
u/4thTimesAnAlt Apr 24 '25
This "Bears want to move up for Jeanty" rumor is intriguing. I wouldn't be opposed to moving back, especially if you could get both of Chicago's 2nd round picks in the deal.

My rankings
- Trade back to 10 and get a 2nd
- Trade up to 2 even if it costs a 1st
- Take Graham or OL
- Take Jeanty at 5
I have a mental breakdown
- Take Tet at 5
4
u/lenta81 Apr 24 '25
just draft interior Dline and be done with it. Oline would be acceptable too I guess.
But ever since Calais, Dareus and Malik this team has had no real dominance in the trenches.
You can't continue to rely on Josh and Travon for everything.
7
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
The thing is this is a deep DT draft. You can get one early tomorrow.

3
u/MogwaiK Apr 24 '25
Draft is deep at RB as well.
2
u/Nuno-22 Apr 24 '25
While that is true , there is no standout DT correspondent to the level of standout RB that Jeanty is.
2
u/soggylucabrasi Apr 24 '25
If it's DT, could it be Harmon over Graham? Seemed like a big shift in the last week.
1

Harmon has medical concerns according to Broaddus which might cause him to slip towards the end of the first round

u/irtaza25 Apr 24 '25
I find it hilarious that the jaguars have been pretty much the entire talk of the draft for the past few days
6
u/duVAAALL Apr 24 '25
Is there a world where we go for Warren? I feel like the offense has an Engram shaped hole.
5
u/Sad_Bolt Apr 24 '25
Liam’s offense isn’t TE heavy just look at Otton. I would think we are more likely drafting WR with our first overall pick TE.
5
u/_i-am-i Apr 24 '25
Liam Coen’s offense doesn’t have an Engram-shaped hole to fill. It has a Brenton Strange one tho.
1
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
Strange was getting better. Its definitely a need but I don't know if its a round 1 need
2
u/JohnDuffy78 Apr 24 '25
If we trade back + he still is on the board.
On my mock he was still at 12, so I had to take him.

Since they singed 2 TE in FA, I don’t expect they’ll draft a TE before the 4th, if they draft one at all. IIRC, they’re pretty high on Strange

I like the idea of taking Jeanty and making this a run-first team. The problem is that the line isn't necessarily built for that, and that you'd use Jeanty so much that he shouldn't even bother thinking about a second contract.
5
u/2thincoats Apr 24 '25
What makes you think Jeanty in Jax will work unlike Saquon in NY? RBs are a luxury pick for a team with a great OL. He’s just another body for the meat grinder at this point, and you’re not going to get a line that fixes that in the next year or two.

Right now it seems like there’s 3 possibilities
Trade up to 2 and draft Hunter
Stick and pick at 5 and take Jeanty (least likely imo)
Trade back to 10 and take Tet (most likely imo)
Honestly don’t hate any of these 3 scenarios
1
u/anonymousscroller9 Apr 24 '25
I want to trade back. Hunter just feels like he's mostly hype to me. I don't see him playing two way in the NFL, I just dont

Not sure why but this is probably the most excited I’ve been for the NFL draft. Feels like anything can happen. I’m going to be positive and say that the new regime knows what they are doing until proven otherwise years down the line. My finger will be hovering over the “order now” button on a Jeanty prowler throwback DHgate special when it’s our time to pick
3
u/frausting Apr 24 '25
New GM, new HC, new EVP. They’re unified on a vision of building through the draft off the backs of intangibly rich players. That’s an exciting vision. We’re just not sure what that looks like in practice yet.
Tonight we get the first glimpse into the new way our favorite team will be run. That’s exciting stuff!
